Dallas and Deana's California wedding

Monday, Oct. 12th

No trip out west is complete without a stop at In-N-Out burger!
Scott Babe and I spent a few days with my in-laws, Marcia and Jim, outside of Dallas before heading to San Diego for Deana & Oren's wedding on Saturday.

Tuesday, Oct. 13th

I had so much fun joining Marcia and her Canaan pooch, Ziva, for a private agility lesson at Best Friends Fun Farm in McKinney!

A feisty rodent—I mean jack russell terrier, and a border collie were in a group agility class.

Wed. Oct. 14th
Gorgeous day to borrow my in-laws' car!

1 pm - Lunch at Knife

I had originally chosen a few other restaurants for lunch but quickly changed my mind to Knife, after seeing this Instagram, from food photographer Daniel Krieger

We were handed an iPad to view the cocktail list!
I chose the "Flowers for Tiffany" in observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Knife donated a portion of the proceeds to benefit breast cancer awareness and research.

My tasty cocktail and Scott's refreshing Leprechaun (Houston based company) pear cider behind it

Wow. This was amazing. Tomato soup with Vermont cheddar & avocado.

I paired my soup with their grilled cheese. Not just a grilled cheese mind you, but a JT's Grilled Cheese with white cheddar, sharp cheddar & goat cheese.

Scott Babe loved his sandwich, too. Cuban: Pork belly, Benton's ham
(His favorite pickles, ever, too.)

**After we took our last bites, I was curious about dessert. After all, I saw a French press go by earlier. However, no such luck for us. Our waiter dropped the check at twenty to 2 and didn't offer dessert. My jaw dropped. I looked around and saw that they were closing the kitchen and the staff was leaving. Their lunch service ends at 2. I still recommend this restaurant and would definitely go back, but I'd go at 12 or 12:30 to not miss out on some chocolate and coffee!

After lunch:

A few of my kitty friends sell their merchandise to the Cat Connection. That's how I learned about this purrfect store.

Aren't these the cutest? I would have bought all three if Ginger would let me dress her!

Randi's catnip: Taco sauce, sugar substitutes and popcorn and peanuts! :)

Trish's catnip :)

Noƫlle's totes :)

Stevie giving our order her seal of approval!

Pics taken by my girlfriend Chrissy, who was taking tender care of Ginger and Charlie while we were in Texas. ♥

Thursday, Oct. 15th
Family selfie before we head to the airport.

On our way to San Diego.
Scott Babe is very familiar with San Diego because he went to college there. What he wasn't familiar with was Coronado Island, and that is where we would spend our first night in California.

Landing in San Diego video above.

I chose El Cordova over the fancy-schmancy Hotel del Coronado because of budget! Don't get me wrong, we totally checked out Hotel del Coronado, but just didn't sleep there. Keep reading.

Our one bedroom suite! - #53

Our courtyard:

After we checked in, we ate a late lunch at Miguel's which was at our hotel. This would end up being Scott's favorite meal during this trip to California.

My dish: Tres Amigos
(One birria taco, one slow roasted brisket taco & one ensenada-style shrimp taco)
Scott Babe's awesome dish behind mine was Carne Asada Tacos

After our late lunch, we walked across the street to Hotel del Coronado:

Wave, Babe!!!

The cutest pooch on the island.

Herb and veggie gardens!

That evening, we sat outside and had dinner here.

Bonus chocolates after dinner. Dinner here was good, but I'd like to check out Vigilucci's next time.

Friday, Oct 16th:

We checked out of our hotel and drove 15 minutes north to Hash House A Go Go. It was a 20 minute wait. We took shelter from the drizzle under the awning.

Big decisions!

I started with a cup of coffee and a San Diego beer.

Bloody Mary for Scott Babe.

Portions were nuts.
HH original w/smoked bacon, fresh tomato, fresh spinach, roasted red pepper cream and topped w/ two basted eggs

Scott Babe's hash in a cast iron skillet.

After lunch, we checked out the nearby 1905 Arts and Crafts style Marston House in Balboa Park.
My pictures don't do it justice. I do recommend visiting this home.
Click here for a nice posting about the house.

San Diego sightseeing:
We stopped here because it was highly recommended by my friend, Haylee.

Lemon Meringue Bar and Guava White Chocolate Parfait, both with her signature real flower and edible gold leaf.

We chose, I mean I chose the Raspberry Linzer Danish.
We devoured it outside.

I fell in love with this building. It's the Horton Grand Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter District.

Yes, we did stop here for a Guinness! Or was it a Jameson and Ginger?!

We had refreshing margaritas at La Puerta (recommended by Jillian)

We then drove 30 minutes north to Del Mar where we would stay for 3 nights.

Photo from Hotel Indigo's FB page.

Loved the manicured trees!

The front desk had an out-of-towners welcome gift bag waiting for us.
SO NICE. The pic of me was from Deana's Bachelorette party in Nashville!

Rehearsal Dinner:

Deana & Oren had their rehearsal dinner at Pacifica del Mar on their outdoor patio. Just gorgeous.

Saturday, Oct. 17th:

Stratford Court Cafe for breakfast

Pooch friendly!

Scott Babe's Stratford Scramble and my Croissant Sandwich.

Cute shops and restaurants in Del Mar!

After breakfast and some shopping, we drove 15 minutes south to Westfield UTC so that I could get my makeup done at Sephora. While I was getting that done, Scott Babe discovered a new favorite store: Pirch

Scott Babe wouldn't let us leave the mall until he showed me Pirch.
I asked Scott Babe why he likes Pirch. "It's a playground for people who want to live in million dollar homes. All kinds of fun appliances and fixtures for your kitchen, bathrooms, and outdoor grills."

Across the street from the mall was Torrey Pines Village. This one of Scott Babe's apt. complexes after he graduated from UCSD.

Another apartment Scott Babe lived in! This was Scott Babe's rental town home during his junior & senior years at UCSD (Frank was a roommate!)

Everything in California is cooler, including their supermarkets and the parked cars.

Deana is an artist and illustrated her own wedding invitation.

Selfies in our room before Deana & Oren's wedding!

Judge Dana Sabraw married Deana & Oren - he is a Federal District Court Judge in San Diego. He is also a mentor and dear friend of Deana's. (Deana interned for him after her first year of law school.)

I adore the simpleness.

Sunday, Oct. 18th:

We were honored to be included at Deana's family brunch the next morning. This is Lola.

La Jolla:

After brunch, we headed south to La Jolla for a late lunch.

Olesya recommended Puesto to us. :)

 Scott Babe's tacos

Mine. All mine. Delish. Tamarindo Shrimp Tacos
Crispy shrimp, tamarindo-chile sauce, avocado, cilantro, fresh herb tortillas.

Side dish of Esquite
Grilled corn, chile, lime, queso, crema

It was another overcast day. All this means is that we'll do another California trip as soon as we can!

After La Jolla, we headed back up north to Solana Beach and checked Cedros Avenue, which was recommended by Deana.

Solo was a lot of fun. It had a bit of everything for your home.

Coffee at Lofty. :)

Adorable store called Muttropolis! They had a small kitty section that we checked out.

Part of Deana and Oren's wedding favor.

THE END! ♥ Next up, Austria in February.
