Day 6 - Herkuleshof

January 2, 2019

Each day of this trip was very special and today was no exception.
Wolfgang's kitty, Barun, is 20 years young.

Driving to lunch (1/2 hour from home)
Do you see the other church at the top of the hill? That is where we are headed. :)
Herkuleshof:
This restaurant was on my itinerary three years ago, but it was among many that were closed for winter break. This was a first time visit for all of us. :)
Nicole :)
Guest house - Click here to see the rooms along with ones in the main house. Rooms start at 41 Euros ($45 a night)
The restaurant was gorgeous and beautifully decorated for Christmas.

I'm working on this posting on Aug. 4th and Angelina turns 1 tomorrow!!!
 The holiday menu

My beer :)

Sven's birthday wasn't until the next day, but I gave him his card at our special lunch because they were driving back to Vienna next day. As you can see, he appreciated it!
Fancy presentation of Frittatensuppe! Sound on! I replaced the background noise with some Johann Strauss!
 The soup was excellent.
The view of the guest house behind me.
 Nicole and Angelina
Delicious Wiener schnitzel with potatoes and cranberries.
Wolfgang had the Gekochter Tafelspitz mit Röstkartoffel und Krensauce (meat with roasted potatoes and horseradish sauce)
It's a typical Austrian dish made of  beef that is simmered with root vegetables and spices in the broth. Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria, was a great lover of Tafelspitz.
The lady bug is good luck and the candle read, "Cheers to the new year!"

  Cappuccino with whipped cream.
Italian chocolate tart. Amazing, just like it looks. :)
Outside:

Weddings are popular here. In fact, I was envious that a couple seated near us was having a tasting of the food for their upcoming big day! Click here to see the website's pretty pics of a wedding!
There were a few flurries coming down. :)
The pond.
The picture I had been dreaming of taking myself!
 Bee motel.
The church I talked about in the beginning of the post. :)

Photo taken by Kai Nickel, February 2019.
I follow Herkuleshof on Facebook. When I saw this image taken by Kai Nickel, I immediately requested his permission to post it on my blog. Isn't it lovely? (We had only checked out the pond and did not venture up.)

Driving back to Spittal:

 My favorite bakery.
Everything is made on the premises. So delicious.

My favorite dessert -- Kardinalschnitte. Wolfgang enjoyed it, too!
Sven and Angelina
The Three Kings at the pet store!
Barun's food!

Back home in Trebesing:
We got a little bit of snow!
Wolfgang cooked us spätzel with cheese! It was so yummy. Below is the recipe. A heads up that he boiled spätzel instead of frying because he was cooking for so many people.

Käsespätzel
Serve with a salad

Step 1: Heat your wood burning stove!
(or preheat your oven to 350°)

Ingredients:
Spätzel - 750 grams (1 & 1/2 lbs)
Onions - 2 med
Gouda & a good melting cheese — a bowl full
marjoram
Parsley - fresh is better!
Sunflower Oil or any oil you have on hand

Cook the spätzel while you fry the onions
Drain the spätzel

Add the cooked onions to 8 x 12 pan
Add the cooked spätzel
Add dried marjoram
Add dried parsley (fresh is of course better!)
10 min oven or until cheese melts
Take out & stir it
2 min back in oven

Add salt & pepper after you plate

Mahlzeit❣️

And Vati baked apfelstrudel again!

*Stay tuned for my afternoon with Iris.
