We are finally here! My last posting of this amazing trip!
Schoberblickhütte:
Wolfgang and I drove about one hour north to Rennweg for lunch at a cabin. As we got closer, the roads worsened with snow and ice. Wolfgang attempted putting chains on the tires, but we ended up making it without them.
Selfie :)
The window behind me. ♥
Yes, my favorite soup again! -- Frittatensuppe
Wolfgang had knödel with sauerkraut and I had schweinsbraten, roast pork with sliced knödel and sauerkraut.
Heidelbeerschnaps - yum! (Blueberry schnapps. I just googled the translation. I don't remember all basic food words!)
Apple cake with Schlag (whipped cream)
Wolfgang finishing the cake as I drink a 2nd Heidelbeerschnaps!
Walking back to the car:
Wolfgang's shot of me. :)
I am fascinated by the shrines throughout the region. They give me a peaceful feeling.
I spliced my two interior photos together to give you a better peak inside.
Video & Photos taken from the car:
The 1588 church in the hill is very special because it's divided into two parts! Sorry I didn't take pics of it to show you exactly. It's one of those things you drive by all the time, and I should have had Wolfgang drive up. Anyway, click here to see what I'm referring to. (Two pics on the link.) It's known as "Die geteilte Kapelle," the divided church, and it's in Gmünd. It has two parts with the road going through it. On one side of the street is where the pastor preaches and on the other side are the worshipers! Both sides are open.
Back in Trebesing:
Our old drinking buddy, Klaus, ended up treating us. (No pics of him, sorry! And it's killing me that I can't find him in my foreign exchange student photo albums. He must have been in my out-takes and I'm not sure where the box is!)
My favorite soda -- Almdudler made in Austria. Very similar to ginger ale. The only place I've seen it sold in the States is at Cafe Katja in the Lower East Side.
(The restaurant filled up as time went on.)
This looks so simple, yet it's so good! Grilled cheese in German is "Toast"! :) Mine was with ham.
Cappuccino to end a great day and evening.
January 5th - Last full day
The morning view from the balcony never gets old.
My last Mittagessen (lunch):
Remember Wolfgang and I went to Mettnitzer two days ago? Well...the food was unbelievable and we easily agreed to dine again, but this time we made a reservation so we could see the other rooms and have a white table cloth! We ended up changing to the reservation to include Gustav and Suvi :)
Gustav
Our reserved table. And needless to say, I love it when words are universal.

The lovely owner, Margarete Mettnitzer. I am heartbroken to learn that Margarete's hubby, Karlheinz, the head chef, passed away in October. :(

Suvi started with a seafood soup.
My last Fritattensuppe on this trip. Yes, I devoured it every day!
OMG! Small world! This is Wolfgang #2 -- My host brother Wolfgang's friend. We became FB friends on this trip and then we ran into each at lunch! So much fun!
I ordered the exact same thing as I did two days prior because it was one of the best meals of my life. (Beef Stroganoff with cheese risotto)
Suvi ordered the octopus special.
Gustav happy with his beef tartare!
Cappuccino with schlag (whipped cream) for me!
After lunch, Wolfgang and I drove 2 minutes to my favorite bakery. Two desserts for me! :)
Heidi & Christian's:
My Miss Piggyness continued at Heidi's house! Heidi & her hubby Christian and their 13 year old son, Moritz live next door to Wolfgang & Vati. (Heidi and Wolfgang are cousins.)
Christian pouring schnapps.
Schnapps with Heidi. This was the day before my flight home and Heidi said to Wolfgang, "You did more with Tricia during her visit than you have in the whole year!" Cute, huh?
THE END.
